“Light, Beauty and Purification” – Paul Chiang Art Center’s Inaugural Exhibition, Curated by Fumio Nanjo
|
The Paul Chiang Art Center is set to open on March 15, 2025. The inaugural exhibition will feature art critic and curator Fumio Nanjo as the curator, with artist Jason Chi serving as the co-curator. Nanjo, currently a special adviser at the Mori Art Museum in Japan, has been actively involved in the international art scene for many years and has had a significant influence on the promotion of contemporary art in Asia and globally.
Ten years ago, Nanjo visited Paul Chiang’s studio, where they exchanged experiences related to art and life. The title of the inaugural exhibition, “Light, Beauty and Purification,” was chosen by Nanjo to encapsulate the core elements of Chiang’s artistic style.
“Art is not just the purpose of creation; it is also an integral part of Chiang’s life,” Nanjo remarked. “His artistic journey has led him to encounter light, music, and nature, expanding the boundaries of his creations and returning to the essence of life.”
Nanjo believes that art is never separate from life; rather, it enriches life. He noted that Chiang’s art conveys this understanding to the audience. He also praised the art center’s serene and soothing unique charm, attributing it to its “inaccessibility,” which sets it apart from urban environments.

Island Life – Promoting the Establishment of an Official Organization
|
The Island Life Co-Learning Group, founded less than three years ago, now boasts over 30 groups and individuals, forming a vibrant community of “Islanders.” Through practical courses, off-site visits, and immersive experiences, it has grown into a comprehensive learning platform. During the annual members’
meeting on January 15, members reflected on the past year’s courses, activities, and empowerment achievements, announced the new year’s agenda, and declared the official establishment of the organization.
Lin Yung Che, the district head of the Island Life Co-Learning Group and owner of Tsao Min restaurant, shared, “Island Life is the reason I didn’t leave Taitung last year.” David Lin, from W.G. Café, expressed heartfelt gratitude to everyone who helped Island Life grow, stating, “The team is like a flock of geese in flight – united by a common goal, taking turns to lead, encouraging one another
to cooperate, and sharing the results. This is the most captivating aspect of a team.” In the new year, Island Life aims to deepen cross-disciplinary and cross-regional cooperation, bringing together more partners passionate about local culture to drive profound change and foster community cohesion.

Junyi School of Innovation:
Igniting a Sustainable Vision with Fashion
|
The “Threads of Change” fashion show, organized by 12th-grade students, is the outcome of the cross-disciplinary integration of the “Creative Performance” and “Applied Arts” courses. Teachers Tung-Han Lin and Betsy Lan led the students to explore social issues through art. The students independently selected topics that most touched them from the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and expressed the core spirit of these goals through clothing design, stage setup, and runway presentation.
The students used discarded materials such as cardboard, plastic bags, and empty bottles to create their garments, combining them with performances, lighting, and music to merge art with sustainability. Through their designs, they conveyed ideas and care for the environment. Teacher Tung-Han remarked, “Art is not just an embellishment of life; it is a force that can change the world. I hope that students will experience how to use creativity to raise awareness for causes, influence others, and even shape the future.”

Junyi School of Innovation:
Embracing the New Era of Technology – Junyi’s AI Teacher Training
|
ACF Chair Stanley Yen invited KKBOX co-founder Chris Lin and Shih Chien University lecturer Joshua Chao to share with Junyi teachers how AI can be integrated into education. “AI is the typewriter of the new era. Not understanding AI is like being illiterate in the modern age,” Lin emphasized, noting that AI is a tool for creating value in today’s world. He stressed the need for courses designed to teach students how to use AI positively.
Lin introduced a three-stage AI curriculum – the foundational stage, which fosters curiosity and empathy; the creative stage, which guides cross-disciplinary innovation and explores market value; and the practical stage, where Joshua showcased student projects and led teachers in hands-on exercises. Chris and Joshua will revisit Junyi to train AI education seed teachers, aiming to make AI an integral part of both teaching and learning. This initiative transforms the challenges of technological change into opportunities for driving educational innovation.
