History
Taiwan is considered the birthplace of the Austronesian peoples. Looking at Taiwan's future development from a global perspective, whether Taiwan becomes a center of Austronesian culture or promotes tribal tourism, there is an urgent need to cultivate international talents.
To nurture indigenous talents with a global perspective, Chairman Stanley Yen, through the introduction of Ms. Sun Wei-Ping, President of the U.S.-based Travel Consulting Company and Greater China Regional Agent of the Polynesian Cultural Center/Brigham Young University, is actively paving the way. This initiative aims to give promising indigenous youth the opportunity to study abroad and broaden their horizons, with the expectation that they will eventually apply their knowledge to the management and leadership of their home communities, becoming seeds of hope for tribal transformation.
Brigham Young University-Hawaii (BYU-H) is a four-year university located adjacent to the world-renowned Polynesian Cultural Center (PCC). Through industry-academia cooperation, these institutions cultivate Austronesian indigenous students by enabling them to apply classroom learning to their research, entrepreneurship, future careers, and various missions. From 2012 until the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2019, the Asian Executive Management Program (AEMP) sponsored one youth annually to study at BYU-H for eight months. These students gained knowledge and experience from academics, internships, and life, and upon returning to Taiwan, they passionately dedicated themselves to the development of tribal communities, education, or tourism.
