Since its establishment, the Alliance Cultural Foundation has aimed to provide diverse learning courses and experiences for students in Hualien and Taitung to discover their talents. In 2011, to get students interested in design a chance to stay in tune with contemporary trends, the School of Design at Shih Chien University, National Taitung Junior College, and the Alliance Cultural Foundation co-hosted the "Hualien and Taitung Youth Shih Chien Design Workshop" at National Taitung Junior College. This initiative aimed to explore Taitung's local culture through the design exchange between teachers and students from both regions.
Following the success of the first workshop, the "Hualien and Taitung Youth Shih Chien Animation Camp" became an annual event from 2012 to 2017. The venue moved from Taitung to Shih Chien University's well-equipped and design-rich Taipei campus. Instructors from the Department of Media and Communication Design led the camp, inspiring high school students from across Taiwan in animation and media through mutual learning.
Goals:
- Understand animation techniques and processes, the application of multimedia in the industry, and combine new media to inspire creativity.
- Learn the attitude of innovation and professional spirit from teachers and assistants through group projects, critiques, and presentations.
- Establish collaborative relationships with high schools by having counselors and participants share their experiences, allowing those who couldn't attend to learn about the camp's learning process and outcomes.
Program
- Courses: Introduction to animation and new media, filming techniques, graphic design, drawing, post-production editing, etc.
- Outdoor Visits: Visits to art galleries, museums, and cultural districts in Taipei to capture life snapshots and enrich design imagination, providing inspiration for the camp's final projects.
- Campus Sharing (added in later stages): After the camp, students recommended by the Alliance Cultural Foundation and receiving financial aid must prepare to share their camp experiences and project results with their class or school.
