How It Started
With increasing attention to indigenous cultures in recent years, The Alliance Cultural Foundation invited college students nationwide to volunteer in Hualien and Taitung tribes. Through a "Work Exchange Holiday," volunteers immerse in tribal culture and engage deeply with locals, gaining a closer experience of Hualien and Taitung's arts, humanities, and natural landscapes.
Work Exchange Holiday Mission
Originating in New Zealand and Australia, work exchange holidays involve volunteers working on farms in exchange for free meals and accommodation, with transactions made through labor instead of money. This program allows college students to volunteer in tribes, utilizing their skills for mutual learning and self-discovery and learning to work with people from different cultural backgrounds. It also enables the Hualien and Taitung tribes to benefit from the freely provided talents, fostering exchanges and inspiration between tribal youth and volunteers.
Recruitment targets college students nationwide (including recent graduates) with a passion for service, at least one specialized skill, and an interest in indigenous tribal cultures. There are 15 slots available.
